Solar

The advantages of solar energy

  • Solar is a green, cheap energy; generated where needed. It is environmentally friendly. Compared to fossil fuels like carcinogens and carbon dioxide that release greenhouses gases, solar cells don't release anything into the air and it doesn't generate any transportation costs.
  • A solar energy system can operate entirely independent, not requiring a connection to a power or gas grid at all. Systems can therefore be installed in remote locations and off the grid villages.
  • Solar cells are long lasting and require very little maintenance, once installed there are no recurring costs.
  • Solar energy creates local job and supports wealth creation, fuelling local economies and empowering rural communities.
  • Solar powered lamps are easy to build, other solar powered products as solar panels or solar pumps are easy to install.
  • Solar lamps represent a safer, sustainable solution compared to kerosene lamps.
  • Solar energy brings financial independence, health and security (no more Co2 emission or risk of fire), literacy (extra hours of light at night allow children to read).
  • Solar energy is a renewable resource.

    Vision

The Noar Foundation for Global Community Development seeks to improve the lives of people living in rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa by introducing and developing solar technology.

Togo is close to the equator. The availability of sunlight for Solar Power is, excepting weather, a stable and consistant source of energy all year.

How Can Solar Cells Help?

Combining a small solar panel, a battery and 1 to 3 LED diodes; they provide enough light to change the life of hundreds of people living off grid.

Easy to build and with components that are inexpensive, these kits can easily be assembled and used by kids.

It allows kids to read at night:

In villages where there is no electricity, at night the kids can’t read or do their homework. A simple kit with 3 LEDs provides light for about 10 hours and allows reading easily.

It can be used as a flashlight:

Things as simple as safe travel from one house to another at night can be

accomplished by using the DIY Solar Kit.

It can power a radio or a calculator:

The DIY Solar Kit can replace batteries to power small electronic devices as radios or calculators. When batteries would be expensive and damage the environment, solar is a free, renewable source of energy, with the potential to improve lives of thousands of students.
